Cheshire and Warrington Institute of Technology (IoT) is a collaboration between local colleges, universities and leading employers. Part of a national network, we’re dedicated to shaping a sustainable workforce. We’re focused on creating rewarding careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields for school leavers and adult learners.
We offer a range of technical learning opportunities including academic, vocational and apprenticeship courses. This is supported by a £14.2 million investment from the government to deliver industry-level training and state-of-the-art facilities. Our vision is to provide career-ready graduates that will boost local recruitment and bridge the current employment skills gap.
The Cheshire & Warrington Institute of Technology is part of the national Institutes of Technology (IoTs) network. The IoTs network collaborates with top employers to provide technical education and training. Each institute specialises in STEM fields such as engineering, healthcare, manufacturing and digital technology. With government support and local partnerships, we aim to address the skills gap and enhance economic growth through expert training and modern facilities. The network was first announced in April 2019.
An Institute of Technology (IoT) is a place where you can get top-notch training and qualifications in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). There are 21 IoTs across England, created through partnerships between local colleges, universities and major employers. Funded by £290 million from the government, IoTs offer excellent technical education in areas like construction, cybersecurity, agriculture and engineering, preparing students for in-demand careers.
IoTs are deeply connected to their regions and have strong ties with local employers. They combine the expertise of colleges, universities, and businesses, making it easy for students and employers to find the right training. Each IoT specialises in the technical skills needed in its area and works closely with employers to ensure a skilled workforce. IoTs provide clear pathways to employment through high-quality courses and apprenticeships.
Higher technical education (HTE) includes qualifications like HNC/Ds, Foundation Degrees, and higher apprenticeships. These courses help you gain the skills, knowledge, and industry contacts needed for high-skilled jobs. HTE courses are usually shorter and cheaper than traditional three-year degrees. From 2022, top HTE courses will have a quality mark from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IFATE). HTE can also help you advance your career or fast track to a full degree if you wish to continue your education.
